Won't pull controversial Bhajji TV ad, says Mallya

MUMBAI: A day after off-spinner Harbhajan Singh's mother slapped a legal notice against United Spirits Ltd for spoofing the Indian cricketer in a McDowell's No.1 commercial, UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya said the liquor major is not looking to pull the controversial advertising campaign off air.

Mallya added that his lawyers would recommend the next course of action while USL's rival Pernod Ricard said it had not advised Bhajji on his legal move but will support the all-rounder in the latest controversy.

"It was not meant to attack Harbhajan Singh personally. It was just a spoof between two brands. We have received a long-winded legal notice and our lawyers are studying it," Mallya told TOI over phone from France.

"There are several TV programmes that spoof our politicians. What will happen if all of them start sending legal notices?" he said.
